A little help.
A lot more clarity.
Whether you're following the House Index or building an index of your own, find the guidance you need to get started and manage your portfolio.
What can we help you with?
Following the House Index
Exchange connections, portfolio setup, ongoing management, subscriptions and common questions.
Building your own index
Index construction, backtesting, weighting, exchange execution and scheduled rebalancing.
Getting started with the House Index.
The House Index combines independent investment approaches into one adaptive crypto strategy. You can connect your own exchange account to follow its holdings without having to build an index yourself.
Your first three steps
Create your account
Sign up to Themelia and explore the House Index. You can review the strategy before connecting an exchange account.
Connect your exchange
Link a supported exchange account through the connection process in Themelia. Your assets remain in your own exchange account.
Review your portfolio
Review the proposed holdings, add or remove analysts if desired, then purchase your House Index subscription.
Themelia does not take custody of your funds. You retain control of your exchange account, while authorised connections allow Themelia to execute the index strategy.
House Index questions
Answers about setup, portfolio management, subscriptions and troubleshooting.
What exactly is the House Index?
The House Index is an adaptive crypto index that combines independent human and algorithmic investment approaches. Those approaches contribute to asset selection, with their influence informed by demonstrated skill.
Rather than holding a permanently fixed basket of cryptocurrencies, its constituents and exposure can change as market conditions evolve.
Which exchanges can I connect?
Do I need an exchange account first?
No. You can create a Themelia account and explore the platform before connecting an exchange. You'll need a supported exchange account before you can execute trades.
Can I customise the House Index holdings?
Yes. You can use the House Index as your starting point and review the proposed analysts before trading, adding or removing their contribution.
Your personal portfolio may differ from the published House Index if you customise its analysts.
How does rebalancing work?
The House Index can change its composition as its underlying investment approaches respond to market conditions.
When following it through Themelia, portfolio rebalancing is designed to adjust your exchange holdings towards your selected index configuration. Actual executions depend on exchange support, available balances, liquidity and applicable trading constraints.
Can the House Index move into a defensive position?
Yes. The strategy can reduce digital-asset exposure when its underlying approaches identify fewer attractive opportunities. This can include periods with no active crypto exposure.
Defensive positioning is not a guarantee against losses.
How much does the House Index cost?
The standard subscription fee is 0.25% per month of the average index value tracked during the billing period. The fee is pro-rated when you join during a billing period, and there is no fixed subscription term.
Exchange trading commissions and execution costs are separate. An initial US$1 card validation charge also applies when subscribing. Any applicable promotional offer should be checked against its specific terms.
Why might my returns differ from the published index?
Published index performance is not necessarily the same as the return of a live account.
Differences can result from the date you started, customised holdings, weighting, exchange asset availability, trading fees, spreads and execution prices.
Historical index returns also do not guarantee future investment performance.
Can I disconnect or cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can stop following the House Index and cancel your subscription.
Your assets remain in your exchange account. Disconnecting Themelia does not necessarily liquidate your existing holdings or cancel outstanding exchange orders, so review your account when stopping the strategy.
What should I do if my exchange connection stops working?
Check whether your exchange account is accessible, whether the connection credentials or permissions have changed, and whether there are account restrictions or outstanding security checks.
If the issue continues, contact Themelia support with the exchange name and a description of the problem. Never email passwords or recovery codes.
Build, test and manage your own index.
Custom Indexes give you control over the rules that determine which cryptocurrencies belong in your portfolio. Build your index, explore its historical performance and connect an exchange to invest in its constituents.
From idea to investment
Define your index
Choose the investment universe, available selection criteria, number of assets and portfolio weighting method.
Explore the history
Backtest your index to understand its historical behaviour and compare different construction rules.
Connect and rebalance
Connect a supported exchange account, purchase the constituents and choose a weekly, monthly or quarterly rebalancing schedule.
Choose equal weighting or market-cap weighting for the entire portfolio. Individual asset weights cannot be manually specified.

Custom Indexes questions
Answers about index construction, backtesting and ongoing management.
How do I create a custom index?
Open the index builder, select the assets or market universe you want to consider, and define your selection criteria.
Choose how many assets to include and whether to weight them equally or by market capitalisation.
You can then explore the resulting index and its historical performance before deciding whether to invest.
What selection rules can I use?
The index builder supports rule-based construction using available market and asset-selection criteria. These can be used to narrow the eligible universe and determine which assets are included.
The precise criteria available depend on the platform configuration. Review the controls in the builder to see the current options.
What is the difference between equal and market-cap weighting?
With equal weighting, every constituent starts with the same target allocation. For example, a ten-asset index would target approximately 10% per asset.
With market-cap weighting, larger assets receive a greater share of the portfolio based on their relative market capitalisations.
The weighting choice applies to the whole index rather than individual assets.
Can I add or remove individual cryptocurrencies?
Yes. You can customise your index composition by adding or removing supported assets, alongside defining the broader rules that govern the index.
Actual purchases remain subject to the asset listings and trading rules of your connected exchange.
What is a backtest?
A backtest applies your chosen index rules to historical market data to estimate how the index would have performed over previous periods.
It can help you understand past returns, volatility and drawdowns, but it cannot predict future results.
Historical simulations do not include real-world trading and implementation costs.
Can I compare different index ideas?
Yes. You can compare up to 6 different indexes, across 6 different time frames, on the one chart.
How do I invest in the index I've created?
Connect a supported exchange account through Themelia, review the proposed constituents and confirm the portfolio configuration before trading.
You own the underlying assets through your own exchange account rather than buying a separate index token or fund unit.
How often can my index rebalance?
Custom Indexes support weekly, monthly and quarterly rebalancing schedules.
Rebalancing adjusts the portfolio towards its index rules and target weights. It may create trades and associated execution costs, and results can differ from theoretical index performance.
Do I need to connect an exchange to backtest?
No. Index design and historical testing can be explored without first executing trades through an exchange account.
An exchange connection is needed when you want to purchase and manage the actual index constituents.
Why might my live portfolio differ from my backtest?
Backtests are theoretical simulations. Actual portfolios are affected by execution prices, available liquidity, exchange listings, trading commissions, order constraints and the date investments were made.
An index with strong historical performance may perform very differently in the future.
Where can I read more about the methodology?
